!NetUtils - ⌐ James Aylett December 1991 V1.15
NetUtils is designed for you, the network system manager to be able to
control the network from your monitor computer.
A few words are needed about its operation :
Net On toggles on/off when you click on it. It controls the state of the
network modules inside your computer. You cannot be 'controlled' by another
computer over the network if your Net On does not have a tick beside it, but
you can't control other peoples either.
Utilities leads to a sub-menu :
The sub-menu contains another four sub-menus, three of which designate
rooms of computers, or maybe area in the school or wherever you have the
network. The top three sub-menus are the same :
Warn gives a warning over that room of a reset coming soon.
Reset now resets all the computers in that room at once.
2 mins issues a warning and then, after 2 minutes resets all computers
in that room.
The other sub-menu in Utilities is Other Utils. This contains the same
utilities as the other three, except the timed reset, but they can be
applied to a single computer. It also contains a notify, and an option to
change the network you are using for these operations.
Warn/Reset these options are as above : click on them, and then type in
the station number.
Notify : click on the option, type in the station number, and then the
message followed by <RETURN>.
Net : this leads to a sub-menu which contains four preset net numbers
(0-3) plus the number 4. Clicking on the last option allows you to type
in your own number. This only selects a network for the operations
available using this program, not for any other net utils programs that
may be floating around.
TO SET THE STATION NUMBERS FOR EACH ROOM.
Load up the program !RunImage from the !NetUtils directory. The directory
can be entered by double-clicking on the application icon with <SHIFT> held
down. In PROCstartup, near the beginning of the program three variables,
ROOM1$, ROOM2$ and ROOM3$ are set up. Change these to the names of the areas
or rooms that you use. Then, at the end of the program, there is a list of
data with some REM statements to explain how it is set out. You can enter
the station numbers of the computers in each area here. The defaults given
there are merely to show how the numbers should be set out. Once you have
made the necessary alterations, save !RunImage and load !NetUtils again.

You can refine and re-write the main program all you like, but this file
should not be altered. If the other files need to be changed, then you can.
